Linoleum Block Cut & Other Endeavors

This is the fun I had with a linoleum block cut. It's great for stickers and graffiti around town. I like the texture it can get but the pace with my poor-man's version of proper materials, is not ideal for mass production. Primitive is the key word here. It's a great way to be productive, without really being productive, and I'm all for that. Doodle images on handbags or canvas shoes, anyone?

Also I'm still working on a poster for Bandwagon, the Savannah  Poster Show + Sale. After completing the drawing, all I have to do now is upload the file to Illustrator to add and separate the layers of color that I will use. Here's the work in progress:
Also, I came across The Paper Collective on twitter. It helps promote artists of all kinds. I'm looking forward to participate in their first project a self portrait. For more information on their project and website click here. I have decided to use an image I created a while ago from my sketchbook. I want to incorporate cut paper and my line work into it as well. Here's a sneak peak:

Paper Cuts

Thanks for all your support and votes for the Doodlers Anonymous and Blik wall decal competition. Unfortunately, I did not win but there was a lot a great and inspiring work in the contest. I've been keeping myself pretty busy finishing projects and starting new ones.
Recently I've shown you my work in progress for a few of my new projects and now that they're completed, I happy to show you the final work. The martian girl, like I said, would be an image for the closing page of my portfolio and/or an image for my website which I will design in the next few months. I'm excited to start designing a website for my illustration work as I always have fun creating all the rollovers and little gadgets that go with it. Creating a poem to go along with the illustration I did for the Australian goddess myth of the Gnowee, was also a lot of fun. As the myth goes, Gnowee, after losing her son, in a world without light, lit a large torch, essentially becoming the sun, and now comes across the horizon each day to find him. I wrote a poem for the solar goddess because I wanted to bring the oral tradition of mythology to the present by creating a double-page spread for a children's book. As most myths are cyclical in nature, emphasizing how people came from nature and our inter-connectivity to the world, I wanted to re-emphasize this point in this format. As myth came from an oral tradition, to another oral tradition, that of reading books to children, it shall return. As I finished these projects, I came across a competition for Savannah's Bandwagon Poster Show & Sale. The event is somewhat hard to find on the internet so here is the event's official website: http://www.attendbandwagon.com/
The event looks really awesome, as I'm a huge fan of poster art and printmaking. Right now I'm working on a sketch and I hope to enter it into it into the competition. I hope to post it up soon.

Vote for ME! Doodlers Anonymous Contest

Today, as usual, I was doodling, but unexpectedly I came across a contest from the really awesome website Doodlers Anonymous. Doodlers Anonymous is a website that celebrates all things concerning doodling and sketching AND it's just plain fun. Every month they have a contest prompting people to get creative and doodle. This month they teamed up with Blik, a company that designs and produces amazing wall decals, and challenged people to design their own. So as an avid doodler, I dedicated my doodle of the day to this contest. Of course it would be amazing to win, so vote for me!

Here is my doodle before I added color in illustrator:

And here it is on their wall:

voting starts tomorrow: March 10

Martians, Sun Gods, and Bicycles

I just wanted to make an update on some of things I have been working on. Recently I've been working on my portfolio and I have been creating the opening and closing page images for my book. The first image I did, I wanted to show my interest in the editorial market for female publications. This shows my process. Here is my sketch with color:
This next image shows more of my working process:
And then the final image:
Here are more pieces I'm in the process of completing. The first, my martian lady, is for the closing page of my portfolio and the last, is for my world mythology class. It will be an illustration of the Australian sun goddess, Gnowee.

The number 4

For my friend's birthday, she asked me to draw her a number four. She is obsessed with the number so I said, "why not." Here is the result. I doodled the form like I traditionally do in my sketchbook. I uploaded it to letterPLAYGROUND.com too. Here is a better look. My details get lost in the restrictions of the small file size, sadly.
I also came across these awesome stamps on Etsy.com. They have really inspired me to want to create my own. They're so cute too. I'll update when I make my own. If you want to see more of these stamps, they can be found here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MemiTheRainbow?ref=pr_shop.
Enjoy!
